C2 helped transform the historic St. Peter’s Episcopal Church complex into a new school campus.
The Waldorf School provides interdisciplinary academics for students in early childhood through eighth grade. As a parent whose children attended the school, C2’s Jim Cassidy served on the search committee as the school sought a new, larger location. Jim and C2 were instrumental in the original property identification and led school community vetting of historic St. Peter’s Episcopal Church as a potential new campus site.
C2 performed all of the preliminary design work for the project to adaptively reuse four historic buildings for academic use, and also handled all of the construction administration to support the project developer’s architect of record.
In a subsequent project, C2 renovated and expanded the former carriage house to contain five early childhood classrooms and grades 1 and 2.
The former church sanctuary, now the Great Hall, contains assembly, performance, and indoor physical education uses; the former carriage house and new addition contain the Lower School; three additional buildings contain classrooms, special-subject spaces, and administration.
The five-year project transformed a blighted corner in Germantown, restored a vacant church and historic buildings while leaving their architectural integrity intact, and provided the Waldorf School with improved, expanded facilities for teaching and learning.
